WOOLMARK AW18 MERINO COLLABORATION
Christian Wijnants and Woolmark team up for a visual collab focusing on Wijnants' AW18 merino wool looks.
After winning the prestigious Woolmark Prize in 2013, Christian Wijnants and Woolmark team up once again for an inspiring collab focusing on AW18 merino wool looks.
Christian Wijnants’ modern use of merino wool got him the International Woolmark Prize in 2013, awarded by a panel including Donatella Versace, Diane Von Furstenberg, Victoria Beckham, Franca Sozzani and Alber Elbaz. His collection was praised for its innovative knitwear, poetic style and contemporary feel.
The Woolmark Company promotes Australian merino wool and supports designers from all over the world by encouraging the creative aspects of wool.
Today, Christian Wijnants and Woolmark present an inspiring collab focusing on merino wool looks of the designer’s AW18 collection. Belgian photography duo Jan & Jorre worked with Belgian model Amandine Renard on a Belgian series of images where texture and colours play the main role. The use of natural lighting makes Christian Wijnants’ intensive textile research and likewise textures even more visible.
Drawing from the rich culture of Persia, Christian Wijnants' AW18 collection captures a poetic Farsi elegance. An eclectic palette of royal blue, whitewashed cream and amingo pink are shot through with intense hues such as dark green, burnt tangerine and Persian orange.
In a nod to the Persian craftsmanship, the collection embraces floral jacquards and embroideries, declined in both detailed and more abstract interpretations – prominent or in a miniature way.
Last weekend, the series of ten images have been presented during the Belgian Fashion Today event in Berlin, in partnership with Flanders DC.
